About Me

Hi, my name is Nigel Farrand. You are at Latitude 61, welcome aboard.

After 30 years of export sales and marketing with Valmet/Metso Automation in Finland and the USA, I now specialize in the planning and preparation of English language marketing materials. I have a wealth of experience in writing for brochures, articles and other presentation materials on a wide range of subjects from pulp and paper automation to the techniques of cross country skiing. I am a native English speaker (British, but also lived in the U.S.A. for seven years) with acceptable spoken Finnish and the ability to work quickly and independently.

I am a member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) and a past member of the Audio Engineering Society. I have also been recognized by TAPPI and CPPA (Canadian Pulp and Paper Association as an instructor in Bleach Plant Sensor Technology.
As you can see from the picture above, my main hobby is sailing. Time permitting I also try to play golf, but the summers here at 61°North are very short (and sweet). Amateur radio was a big hobby in my college days, I still have a full UK licence, call sign M1FGR and I may take it up again some day.

I originally studied marine electronics but switched to telecommunications in the days before mobiles when the telex was king and equipment still had tubes (aka valves in the UK). Since then I have attended a variety of short courses in management, marketing, sales and cultural diversity. I am still learning but as Winston Churchill once said, "I love to learn but hate being taught"!
